Etta May Mason

Former Lusk resident Etta May Mason died last Saturday at a Denver nursing home. She was 94.

A native of South Bend, Neb., she was the daughter of Nathan and Luvinia Kaneff. She attended schools in South Bend.

In 1903, she married Criss Hanson and moved to Omaha. Following his death, she continued to live in Omaha and later moved to Lincoln. In 1922, she married Merle H. Mason in Omaha, and they moved to Lusk in 1949.

Mr. Mason died in 1951 and six years later Mrs. Mason moved to Denver, where she managed an apartment house.

She retired in 1969 and continued to make her home in Denver until ill health caused her to move to the Arkansas Manor Nursing Home in 1971. She stayed there until her death.

Mrs. Mason was a Roman Catholic.

She is survived by a sister, Josephine Farrell of Lusk, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two sisters and infant daughter.

A rosary was recited last Sunday at Peet Mortuary and a mass was said Monday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Bernard Bianco officiated and the organist was Karen Edinger.

Burial was at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe and Paul Pfister, Frank Kuhn, Jerry Wasserburger, Edwin Tschacher and Charles Bruch.

Note:   The Lusk Cemetery records listed Etta May's death date as September 7, 1979. The obituary indicates that she died "last Saturday", which would have been September 8, 1979.
