Edna Loren Manring was born August 16, 1893, near Matkins, Harrison County, Mo., a daughter of Robert W. and Addie Burris Francis. She was raised in the Methodist Church where she played the organ for church and Sunday School. She married Orval M. Manring Sept. 30, 1918, in St. Joseph, Mo. and went to live in Rapid City, S. Dak. In 1924 they moved to Lusk, where she joined the Baptist Church and continued to live until the time of her death.

She received her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse through the Chicago School of Nursing, and assisted Doctors of this community in ushering into the world over 100 babies before turning to the care of the aged. She owned and operated the only Licensed Nursing Home in Niobrara County prior to the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home. Here again, she cared for well over 100 patients before her retirement.

Edna died at 7 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 1985, at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home where she had lived for nearly three years, dying at the age of 91 years.

Surviving is her son, Darryl of Lusk; two granddaughters; Mrs. Reinhard (Lesley) Borchers of Augsburg, West Germany, who presented Edna with her first great grandchild less than two days following Mrs. Manring's passing; and Darilyn D.
