Rosary services for Edna Vivian Austin, 90, will be tonight, Wednesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. at Peet Mortuary Chapel. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lusk. Rev. Patrick Shea will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Austin died Friday, September 9, 1988 at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home. She was born October 11, 1897 to Charles and Etta (Thralls) Senters at Long Pine, NE. She received her education in Douglas, graduating from Converse County High School in 1917.
She married Donald H. (Harry) Austin on April 24, 1918, in St. James Catholic Church in Douglas.
The family moved to Lusk in 1930 where they operated Gay's Cafe for 19 years, closing it in 1960 and established the Lusk Econ-O-Wash which they operated until 1973. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Leo's Catholic Women, the Divide Tumbleweed Club and the Royal Neighbors of America.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; one daughter, Donna Marie; five brothers, William, Ray, Charles, Victor and Lawrence.
Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Koch of Arlington, VA and Louise Lawrence of Porterville, CA; two sisters, Edith McGinnis and Irene Vaughan, both of Lusk; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
For those who wish, memorials in either St. Joseph's Children's Home in Torrington, or the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing home in Lusk would be appreciated by the family.
