Velda Bernice Miller

Services for Velda Bernice Miller, age 84, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in the Lusk Congregational Church with Rev. Allen Kallenbach officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Miller died Monday at her daughter's home in Casper. She was born Aug. 2, 1905 in Dubois, Neb., the daughter of Hezekiah and Anna (Lewis) Penn. When she was nine years old, the family emigrated by covered wagon to the Lusk area. The following year they homesteaded in the Hat Creek area where she attended country school. She then attended high school in Lusk.

She married A. R. (Pat) Miller on Aug. 27, 1922. They were the parents of seven children.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, The Rebecca's Lodge and was a charter member of the Gumbo Hustlers Club. She and her family were in the cast of the first "Legend of the Rawhide" pageant in 1946. She cooked at the Lance Creek and the Lusk schools. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family and many others.

Survivors include: three daughters, Ora Lee Smith of Lusk, Orese Vondra of Casper, and Sharon Kanode of Moorcroft; one son, Patrick Miller of Lance Creek; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; plus 18 nieces and nephews.

For those who wish, memorials to the Blue Envelope, Central Wyoming Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice, 1025 Durban, Casper, Wyo. 82601, will be appreciated by the family.
