James Alfred Mueller
Son of Former Local Residents Dies of Injuries
Word was received here the latter part of last week, telling of the tragic death of little James Alfred Mueller, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Mueller at White Lake, S. Dak., on September 15th. The Muellers formerly lived in the Node vicinity, and left here about three years ago to make their home in White Lake.
According to the Aurora County Standard, the lad was riding on the city water wagon, and was holding the reins. A sudden jerk of the horses' heads or a hole in the street caused him to be thrown from his seat and his little body fell directly in the path of the heavy wagon, the wheels passing over the back of his neck. L. C. Getty, in charge of the wagon at the time, jumped to the ground as the boy fell, in an attempt to save him, but was too late. He was rushed to a hospital but death occurred shortly after the accident.
Besides his parents, the deceased is survived by three brothers, Lawrence, Carl and Richard, and one sister Hazel, all of White Lake.
Funeral services were conducted from the Catholic church, Wednesday, September 16th and the remains laid to rest in St. Peter cemetery at White Lake.
The many friends of the family in this vicinity are grieved to learn of the boy's untimely death, and all unite in extending sincerest sympathy to those who morn.
