Mary Lee Lee

Funeral services for former Lusk resident Mary Lee Lee, of Fort Collins, Colo., were held June 28, 2003, in Fort Collins, with Brenda Fleagle, Chaplain of Hospice of Larimer County officiating.

Mary Lee Lee died June 25, 2003, in Fort Collins.

She was born to Jennie Mae (Carlson) and George M. Held on June 8, 1926, in Douglas, Wyo.

As a child she lived in Lusk, where she attended elementary and high school.

Mary graduated from Colorado Women's college in Denver, and in 1949 graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BA degree in journalism.

Mary met Charles V. Lee, the love of her life, in 1942, shortly before he was inducted into the Army. Their courtship continued through the war years.

He was discharged in 1945, and both were enrolled at the University of Wyoming. Charles and Mary were married Aug. 31, 1947.

Mary was a member of the Congregational Church in Lusk throughout her younger years, and was married in this church. She and Charles later joined the First Methodist Church of Casper, and the College Methodist Church of Ventura, Calif.

She was a violinist with the Casper Orchestra in the 1960s.

Mary was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Wyoming. She was a 58-year member of PEO in various chapters in Wyoming and Colorado. At the time of her death she was a member of Chapter GS in Fort Collins.

Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles V. Lee; three daughters, Melanie Katherine Sikes of Fort Collins, Jennifer Elizabeth Towner of Albuquerque, N.M., and Charlotte Dean Lee-Nicholson of Lakewood, Colo.; one sister, Carol Jean Chenoweth of Laramie, Wyo.; five grandsons; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Collins Lions Club or the Alzheimer's Association in care of Alnutt Funeral Service, 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO.

Alnutt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
