Harve Ledford, 55, Dies; Military Services Tuesday

Military funeral services for Harve H. Ledford, 55, of Lusk were Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Peet Chapel in Lusk. Mr. Ledford died Sunday at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne following a lingering illness.

Rev. James E. Scott of St. George's Episcopal Church of Lusk officiated at the services. Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Donald Johnson, Dr. Richard Collins, Harry Lyon and Mrs. Samuel M. Thomas as they sang "Abide With Me" and "Breathe On Me, Breath of God."

Casketbearers were Otto Krekeler, Clyde Blackmore, Oscar Bostrom, Cliff Mangus, Archie Huey and Bill Smith.

Burial was in the Lusk cemetery with Bob Allen playing Taps.

Mr. Ledford was the oldest son of John Seton and Melvia (Boyd) Ledford. He was born April 3, 1912, in Missouri. The family moved to Colorado when he was a small boy and homesteaded in the Hoyt community, close to Wiggins, Colo. He remained in this area until coming to Lusk in 1941 to work for Foster Lumber Company.

He married Velma Hansen of Lusk, January 4, 1942. They are the parents of four children; Marcia Stroh, Casper; David, Rapid City; Richard and Glenna of the family home.

He was employed by Foster Lumber Company for 25 years at various locations, returning to Lusk and managing the yard here in 1949-65. He retired at this time due to ill health. For the past 18 months he has been a patient in the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne.

Mr. Ledford was a World War II veteran spending 18 months of that time in Greenland.

He was always interested in community affairs and took an active interest in helping with community events. Mr. Ledford was a member of the Lusk Lions Club and an active member of the American Legion, serving the organization as commander and adjutant and as District Commander in 1965. He was member of St. George's Episcopal Church of Lusk and served on the vestry several times.

His father and an infant son died previously. Survivors include his widow, Velma of Casper and his four children, Marcia, David, Richard and Glenna; his mother, Melvia Ledford, Greeley; two brothers, Paul, Fort Morgan; Bob, Fresno, Calif.; six sisters, Lucile Wence, North Plain, Ore.; Ada Loose, Wiggins, Colo.; Leota Bottger, Lorraine Blenm, Jennie Smith, all of Greeley; Margie Mason, Lewellyn, Nebr., one grandson, Marty Stroh, Casper; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
