Charles D. Lashmett

Funeral services for Charles D. Lashmett, a former Manville resident was held March 12 at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington with the Rev. Mary Bahmer officiating. Lashmett, 66, of Fort Laramie died at Community Hospital in Torrington March 10.

He was born September 24, 1914 at Manville, the son of Walter and Juanita (Baughn) Lashmett. He grew up and attended school in Manville, joining the United States Navy in 1935. Lashmett was in Pearl Harbor in 1941 and retired from active duty in 1955 at the rank of Hull Technician Chief. He remained in the Fleet Reserve for ten more years.

On February 22, 1947, he married Ruby Willis at Bethesda, Maryland. He moved to Alameda, California in 1961 where he worked at the Naval Air Station. In 1974, he moved to Fort Laramie.

Lashmett was a member of the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church and Paul A. Johnston Post No. 2918 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Torrington.

Survivors include his wife Ruby of Fort Laramie; his mother Mrs. Juanita Lashmett of Manville; four sisters, Mrs. Thelma Holdern of Holly, Colo., Mrs. Wilma Jassman of Manville, Mrs. Delma Foley of Casper and Mrs. Rebecca Jane Curtis of Wheatland; and one brother, Carl Walter Lashmett of Manville.

He was preceded in death by his father, an infant sister and an infant brother.

Burial was in the Fort Laramie Cemetery with graveside military services by Paul A. Johnston Post 2918 of the V.F.W. and the Wyoming National Guard. A memorial has been established to the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church.
