Funeral services for Martha E. Lenz, 96, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 1990 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington with Rev. Marvin Temme officiating. Burial will be in the Jay Em Cemetery. Memorial gifts to the Lutheran Hour would be appreciated by the family. Lenz died at Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland on Sunday, Aug. 12, 1990.
She was born Oct. 8, 1893 in Meadow Grove, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Maria (Kammeyer) Lenz and she grew up and attended a country school in that area. She came to a homestead east of Jay Em with her brothers and sisters in 1914; and later that year she filed for her own homestead. She proved up her claim and still owned the place at the time of her death. She moved to Jay Em in 1957 where she worked in the Jay Em Store for Lake Harris for many years. In 1983 she became a resident of the Goshen County Memorial Nursing Home in Torrington and 1986 she moved to the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington and the Jay Em Women's Club.
She is survived by seven nephews; Camas Lenz of Marlin, Wash.; Walden Lulow of Meadow Grove; Bruno Lulow, Winston-Salem, N.C.; Robert Cornett, Cheyenne; Hugo Lenz, Wheatland; Gene Lenz, Lusk; Loren Lenz, Beloit, Wis.; seven nieces; Norma Schofield, Vancouver, Wash.; Rosemarie Roby, Wheatland; Fern Taylor, Aztec, N.M.; Vera Smith, Meadow Grove; Donna Praeuner and Renate Borgelt, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mona Brandes, Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Colyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
