Joe Kuhn, 84, Long-time Lusk Businessman Dies While in Phoenix

Mass of the resurrection for Joe Kuhn, 84, long-time Lusk businessman was held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Rev. Colm Wood officiating. Rosary was recited at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Peet Chapel.

For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Kuhn have spent the winters in Arizona returning to Lusk during the summer months. The Kuhns were ready to return to Lusk when he died in his sleep June 9 at Phoenix.

Mr. Kuhn was an active citizen of the community for many years working in civic organizations and often taking the lead to promote a project that he believed would better the community. Even in the last few summers he spent in Lusk he was actively engaged in summer projects. He devoted much time to organizing the annual Roundup of Niobrarans hosted by the Historical Society.

Honorary bearers were Harley Lohr, Roy McLain, Floyd Simon, Jim Shillenn, Dick Lee, Otto Klemke, Walt Farrell, Frank Chambers, Elmer Fleming, Bill Magoon, Ira Lamb and Carl Hansen.

Casket bearers were L. T. Bonner, Bob Cowell, George Mill, Larry Solberg, Verle Ellis and Len Fulk.

Joseph John Kuhn was born July 13, 1888, at St. Bernard, Neb., and came to Lusk in 1912. He was married to Gertrude Olds, Nov. 12, 1913, at Hemingford, Neb. She died in 1957 and he later married Frances Wehn on May 13, 1958, at Las Vegas, Nev.

Mr. Kuhn was in the implement business in Lusk for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church at Lusk and St. Agnes Catholic Church in Phoenix.

Mr. Kuhn is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, Frank of Lusk; step-son Harold Hansen, Phoenix; daughters, Mrs. Helena Gibson, Phoenix, Mrs. Gertrude Brooks, Torrington; brothers, John, Lusk, Tony, Hemingford, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Agatha Schriever, Kingsland, Texas, Mary Kuhn, Long Beach Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Clark and Greg died previously.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Niobrara Memorial Hospital or the Arthritic Fund.
