Clarence Kilmer Dies at Age 73 Service today

Funeral service for Clarence Kilmer, 73, long-time Niobrara County resident, was being held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel. Mr. Kilmer died June 10 at the Cherry County Hospital at Valentine, Neb.

The Rev. Robert Boutwell is officiating at the service with Mrs. Gerald Bardo, organist, accompanying the singers, Mrs. Dale M. Bardo and Mrs. Merle Hahn. Burial is in the Lusk Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Harlan Lohr, Levern James, Johnnie Thon, John Hammond, Roy Turnbull, Ernie Hansen, Joe McConaughey, Melvin Lambert, Clyde Blackmore, Frank (Bob) Fancher, Walt Zerbst and Pete Owens.

Casket bearers are John DeGering, Donald McConaughey, Paul Morgan, Ralph Sides, Richard James and Kenneth Malmborg.

Clarence Everett Kilmer was born September 20, 1899 at Arnold, Neb., and received his education in the Kilmer Valley School in Custer County, Neb. He was married to Ella Long in 1925 at Broken Bow, Neb.

Mr. and Mrs. Kilmer came to the Lusk community in 1933 and ranched northeast of Lusk until 1954. He then carried mail between Lusk and Lance Creek until retirement in 1962. He moved to Valentine in 1964 and due to ill health was confined to a nursing home at Valentine until his death.

He was a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his father John Kilmer of Arnold, Neb.; three sons, Everett of Lusk, Myron of Casper and Idris of Arnold; one sister, Mrs. Mary Attebury, Van Nuys, Calif., and 14 grandchildren. His mother and one brother, Willis, died previously.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Cancer Fund.
