Craighton Kaltenheuser, 29, died last Wednesday evening following an accident at the family's Stock Farm, northeast of Lusk. He had unloaded a truck of hay and crawled under the truck to release a malfunctioning cable when his clothing became caught in the power takeoff.
The Niobrara Sheriff's Department, rescue and ambulance service were summoned.
Craighton Kaltenheuser has been engaged in farming and ranching here with his father and brother since 1973.
Craighton Kaltenheuser was born May 20, 1953, at Eldora, Iowa, the son of Frank and Joy Ellingson Kaltenheuser. He attended school and graduated from Rolan High School at Roland, Iowa. In 1971 he attended the Des Moines (Iowa) Community College. While in school he was active in music and sports.
On February 5, 1978, Craighton Kaltenheuser and Elizabeth Clark were married at Torrington.
Memorial service was Saturday afternoon at the Congregational Church with the Rev. Frank Blish and the Rev. Robert Siu officiating. Music was provided by Wanda Hansen on the organ and Mark Lohr sang "Amazing Grace" and "Just as I Am."
Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Casket bearers were Kenny Morgheim, Waldon York, Bruce Kilmer, Kenny Keller, Larry Solberg and Dave Hamaker. Honorary bearers were Bob Jacobsen, Harlen Hall, Edger Christian, Steve Kaltenheuser, Ronnie Kaltenheuser, Don Price and Mike Johnson.
Mr. Kaltenheuser is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Travis and daughter Katie Ann; his parents, Frank and Joy; sister Charmayne Price of Wheatland and Gregory and Brad of Lusk and four nephews.
A memorial fund has been established to the Congregational Church.
