Edith Mae Kaan, 93, died Tues., Dec. 5, at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in Lusk.

"Eadie" was born June 8, 1902, at Knobby, Missouri. At the age of eight, she traveled to Wyoming with her parents, Fred and Sophronia "Frona" (Lutz) Eikenberry, who homesteaded near Rawhide Buttes. She attended school at Rawhide School and, after completing high School, Edith went to the University of Wyoming and acquired a teaching certificate. At the time she went to the University, it was comprised of just one building "Old Main." She returned to the Lusk area and taught at the Rawhide School until, at the age of 19, she met and married Nick Kaan. He had immigrated from Holland with his father and two brothers. They built the Kaan ranches south of Lusk. Nick and Edith raised seven children on the ranch before retiring to Lusk in 1945.

Eadie had a life-long devotion to gardening and a very special affection for cats. She was a much lived and admired member of her community. At the time of her death, she belonged to the Fancy Farmers Gardening Club, St. George's Episcopal Church, BPOE Does and the Node Homemakers, in which she was particularly active. She loved her flower garden, her cats, her family and friends, and her special friend, Minnie Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick, and four children - Helen Redding, Norma Shillenn, Phyllis Kuhn and Nick Kaan, Jr.

The surviving children are Myrna Wormley of Sun City, Ariz.; Donna Jetson of Lusk; and Lita Fagan of Casper, who will greatly miss her, as will her sister, Marion Duguid of White City, NM. Eadie was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, Dec. 8, at St. George's Episcopal Church. For those who wish, the family would appreciate memorials to St. George's Episcopal Church.

Bader Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
