Wayne Dariel Johnson

Memorial services for Wayne Dariel Johnson, 77, were held Monday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Guernsey, Wyo., with Pastor Randy Simmons officiating. Inurnment will be held privately.

Mr. Johnson of Guernsey and Sheridan died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000 north of Hartville, in a one vehicle accident.

Wayne was born April 21, 1922 at the family farm near Lance Creek to Reuben A. and Mabel R. (Carlisle) Johnson. He was reared and educated in the Lance Creek area and graduated from high school. He joined the United States Army and served during World War II from Nov. 10, 1942 to Nov. 20, 1945. He married Velma M. Owens on Dec. 24, 1947 in Lusk. He farmed and ranched on the family farm until 1964 when they moved to Guernsey and he was employed as a mechanic for Gorman Chevrolet until he became disabled. They had recently moved to Sheridan, but also have a home in Guernsey.

He was a life time member of the Lake Guernsey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4471. Wayne enjoyed working with wood and on the older automobiles; He was a jack of many trades.

Wayne is survived by his wife of Guernsey and Sheridan; son, Owen L. Johnson and wife Shirley of Chula Vista, Calif.; daughter Norma J. and her husband Ken Henderson of Kouts, Ind.; step-daughter Patty A. and husband Bill Irving of Fall City, Ore,; two brothers and a sister, Robert Johnson and wife Frances of Sheridan, Maxine Miller of Sheridan, and Donald Johnson and wife Gloria of Lance Creek; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Florence Lancester.

Honorary pallbearers were all of his many friends.

Memorials to the Lake Guernsey Veterans of Foreign Wars 4471, P.O. Box 423, Guernsey, Wyoming 82241 or to the Senior Citizens Center, 100 S. Wyoming Ave., Guernsey, Wy. 82214 would be appreciated by the family.

Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of arrangements.
