Funeral services for Vlasta Catherine Jensen, 77, of Lusk, were held June 23, 1999, at Bader Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment was at the Lusk Cemetery.

Vlasta Jensen died June 20, 1999, at the Niobrara County Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Vlasta was born in Hemingford, Neb., May 2, 1922, the oldest child of Edward E. and Dora A. (Mabin) Shimek.

She moved by covered wagon to the family homestead north of Lance Creek in 1926. She attended the Shea school for two years, then attended the Shimek school. In the fall of 1934, the family moved to Manville, where she continued her education.

Vlasta married Earl Franklin Jensen Sr., November 19, 1939; to this union five children were born; Cecil R. Allbright, Zelda Lawrence of Moorcroft, Jens Jensen, Chip Jensen both of Glenrock and Paula Cox of Casper.

Vlasta was employed at the Pioneer Court and the Niobrara County Nursing Home. Most of her time was spent raising her family. She took pride in making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery, as well as hunting and fishing with her husband. She also enjoyed dancing and playing cards.

She was a member for many years of the Hat Creek Ladies Club and the Baptist Church Ladies Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, one daughter Cecil, two grandsons, Vern and Jayde Albright, one sister May, and two brothers, Arthur Fred and Fred Arthur.

She is survived by four children; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Shimek of Riverton, Ernest Shimek of Vernal Utah; five sisters, Avis Elliot of Hot Springs. Ark., Helen Newcomb of Limon, Colo., Daisy Mundschenk of West Sun City, Ariz., Mary Jo Richardson of Wolf Creek, Ore., Bertha (Lindie) Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends and neighbors.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.

Bader Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
