Military Rites Accorded the Late Henry Immesoete at Final Services Sunday; Burial in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding services for the late Henry Immesoete, were held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, October 17th, from the chapel of the Peet Mortuary with Rev. Esther Bozart, of the Open Bible church of this city officiating. Enriching the services was the singing of "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me," by Mrs. Otha Holcomb, and Mrs. Carl Peterson, Rex Yocum, and Don Unruh. Mrs. Ab DeCastro was the organist.

Members of the Wieten-Dupes Post No. 4, American Legion and the National Guard attended the services in a group. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with casketbearers being Fred Hansen, Clarence West, Lee Penn, Roy Elder, Harry Cornell and Joe McConaughey. At the graveside rites military honors were accorded by the National Guard Firing Squad commanded by Capt. Johnnie Thon. The flag was folded by "Chuck" Vaughn and Raleigh Gagstetter and presented to Mrs. Immesoete.

Henry Immesoete was born in Belgium December 26th, 1871 and departed from this life October 13th, 1954 at the Battle Mountain Sanitarium, Veterans hospital in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He had attained the age of 82 years, 10 months and 18 days. He was one of fourteen children born to Sabona and Petrus Immesoete of Waldghem, Belgium, and so far as is known was the last survivor.

He came to the United States at the age of 19 years and received his final citizenship papers on December 20th, 1897. On December 2nd, 1898, he enlisted in the United States army serving three years in the Philippine Islands with Co. "M" 22nd Regiment of the U. S. Infantry. After receiving his discharge in the islands, he went to work as a teamster for the U.S. Government and spent another three years in the islands. He traveled and worked in Belgium, France, Holland, England, Canada, China, Japan Philippine Islands, Hawaiian Islands and thirty some states. At one time he could speak five languages.

In his early years in this country, he and a friend traveled down the Mississippi river in row boats working a while here and a while there. On the trip down the river, he contracted typhoid fever and landed in the hospital in St. Louis. While in the hospital in St. Louis in 1896, a cyclone went thru demolishing the hospital and killing some 300 people. After his army service he was living in San Francisco in 1906 when the earthquake and fire hit the city.

He migrated to western Nebraska in 1908, and homesteaded a piece of land in Sioux County 16 miles southwest of Harrison, Nebraska. On February 13th, 1911, he was married to Edna Orilla Burns at Neliegh, Nebr. To this union three children were born: William Henry Immesoete of Van Tassell, Wyo., Floyd Burns Immesoete of Lusk, Wyo., and Gladys Marie Bump of Casper, Wyo.

Besides his wife and children, he is survived by five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews in this country. He had no contact with any relatives in Belgium since World War II. The only blood relative he has kept contact with besides his immediate family is a niece, Mrs. Louis Reeves of Hutchinson, Kansas.

Mr. Immesoete was held in high esteem by his many friends in this vicinity and will be greatly missed by them.

Out-of- town relatives attending the services included Mrs. Della Robertson and Walter Robertson, Neligh, Nebr. and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Langdon of Van Tassell, Wyo. Friends from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Kennedy and William Pilgrim of Custer, So. Dak. and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Teter of Hutchinson, Kansas.

Henry Immesoete, Pioneer of Van Tassell Area, Dies

Henry Immesoete, a pioneer and long-time resident of the Van Tassell vicinity, died at the Veterans Hospital in Hot Springs Wednesday, Oct. 13. Funeral srvices were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Peet Chapel with Rev. Esther Bozart officiating.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Carl Peterson, Mrs. Otha Holcomb, Rex Yocum and Don Unruh sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide With Me." accompanied by Mrs. Abdon DeCastro on the organ.

Pallbearers wee Fred Hansen, Clarence West, Leo Penn, Roy Older, Harry Cornell and Joe McConaughey, all ex-service men. Interment was in the Lusk cemetery with the Peet mortuary in charge.

Realatives and friends here from a distance were: Mrs. Della Robertson and son, Walter Robertson, Elgin Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Kennedy and William Pilgrim, Custer, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Teeter , Hutchinson, Kan.
