Mr. Humphreys, Former Niobrara Resident, Dies

Graveside service was held March 23 at the Lusk Cemetery for Monzie Humphreys who died in Powell March 19.

The Rev. Robert Boutwell of the First Congregational Church gave the reading from the Scripture and offered prayer. The Peet Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Humphreys came to the Van Tassell area from Reliance, S. D., as a young man with his widowed mother, one of a family of nine children. They ranched in that area for a time later moving to Jireh, while the college was in operation there, so that the family could have the educational advantage of the college and the public schools.

Mr. Humphreys was employed by the Ohio Oil Company of Lance Creek, where he and his family lived for many years.

Since his retirement he has made his home in Powell where he developed a motel, trailer court business, which he was operating at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Powell, three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Beulah) Foley and Mrs. Richard (Donna June) Flitcraft, both of California and Mrs. Walter (Maizie) Ney of Utah; two sons, Donald of Powell and Dale of Cody. There are nine grandchildren.

Three sisters and one brother reside in California. Among other survivors, from this area are his sister, Mrs. Burleigh Blanche Rice, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Jessie Humphreys of Lusk. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
