Memorial service for Verna Hulda Humphrey, life-long area resident, was held Tuesday at Peet Mortuary Chapel with Vicar Daniel L. Gard officiating.
Verna Hulda Humphrey was born January 14, 1907, at Reliance, S. D., the daughter of Fred and Dorothea Baars. She died last Friday, July 31, at the Goshen County Nursing Home in Torrington following a long illness.
The Baars family moved to Wyoming in the spring of 1912. Here Verna grew to womanhood and on January 7, 1927, she was married to Charles E. Humphrey. They made their home on the ranch in the Node community where Mr. Humphrey still lives. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lusk. She was also a member of the Lutheran ladies aid and the Node Homemakers Club.
Ruth Hahn was organist and Debra Doctor, Angela Kupke, Jocelyn Stoldt and Susan Hahn sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Abide With Me." Casket bearers were Richard Lenz, Ed Baldwin, Martin Glandt, Richard Jassman, Vic Leno and Charles Heumier. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Douglas R. Mahnke. She is survived by her husband Charles of Node; two daughters, Dorothy Porter, Hansen, Idaho and Ruth Mahnke, Keeline; one sister Minnie Butler of Lusk; two brothers Wilmer Baars of Torrington and Harry Baars of Lusk; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church organ fund.
