Charlie Edwin Humphrey

Memorial service was held last Thursday, July 1, for Charlie Humphrey, long-time area resident. Mr. Humphrey died June 27 at the family ranch near Node.

Charlie Edwin Humphrey was born Dec. 10, 1900, in Burton, Neb. He came to Wyoming in 1920 when his parents moved to a ranch northwest of Shawnee.

During his early years he rode and also broke horses for several ranches in eastern Wyoming. He met and then married Verna Baars on Jan. 7, 1927. In 1945 the family purchased their present ranch near Node and he resided there until his death.

Mr. Humphrey was a baptized and communicant member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Lusk.

The Rev. Beauferd Anderson officiated at the memorial service. Music was provided by Ruth Hahn, organist and Debra Doctor, Jocelyn Stoldt and Susan Tucker who sang "Abide With Me" and "I'm But A Stranger Here."

Pallbearers were Jimmy Shane, Noal Larson, Malter Larson, Paul Pfister, Rex Shoults, Pete Germann, Bill Bredthauer and Martin Glandt. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his wife Verna, three brothers and three sisters; and one grandson, Douglas Mahnke. He is survived by a brother Oliver of Madras, Ore.; sisters, Fern Curtis of Douglas and Louise Hogmire of Madras; daughters, Dorthy Porter of Hanson, Idaho and Ruth Mahnke of Keeline; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
