Funeral services for Edward Willis Hughes, 84, will be held Saturday, March 24, 2001, at 10:00 AM at the Platte Funeral Chapel in Wheatland, WY, with Pastor Neal Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in the Lusk Cemetery in Lusk, Wyoming.

Mr. Hughes died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.

He was born December 7, 1916 in Hemingford, Nebraska, the son of Ewart and Olga (Christenson) Hughes. After his birth, he and his mother returned to the family homestead in the Flattop Community near Manville, Wyoming. He was reared, educated and worked his whole life at Flattop where he was a rancher and raised his family.

Edward married Stella Dorthea Hytrek on July 20, 1940, at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas, Wyoming. He liked to hunt, fish and read as well as work, taking care of his cows, sheep, and dogs. He is survived by his wife, Stella of Manville; three children, Ronald Hughes and Betty Butler both of Manville and Vicky Schamel of Guernsey, Wyoming; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; two sister, Maurine Johnson and Ruth Hytrek; and one brother, Gilbert "Tuffy" Hughes.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Dustin Butler, Kip Butler, Trice Butler, Earl Nation, John Malcom, and Jim Prell. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Hytrek, Elmer Johnson, Orman Millikin, Bill Walker, Mick Smathers, and all of his many friends.

Memorials to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Friday from 2 PM to 5 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
