Funeral litergy for Stella Dorthea Hughes, 86, was held Dec. 17, 2002, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Guernsey, with Father Robert Cousineau as celebrant. Vigil for the deceased was held Dec. 16, 2002. Interment was held Dec. 17, 2002, in the Lusk Cemetery with Father Pat Shea officiating.

Mrs. Hughes died Friday Dec. 13, 2002, at Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland.

She was born May 29, 1916, in Glendo, the daughter of Paul and Victoria (Benben) Hytrek. She was reared and educated in Glendo and Graduated from Sunrise High School.

She worked at a feed store in Douglas, and was a waitress in Guernsey. She married Edward Willis Hughes on July 20, 1940, at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas.

She lived at the ranch at Flattop, near Manville, until three years ago when she became a resident at the nursing home.

She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Hartville, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, embroidery and reading.

She is survived by three children, Ronald Hughes and Betty Butler, both of Manville, and Vicky Schamel of Hartville; four sisters, Sophia Iland of Anaheim, Calif., Celia Halleck and Verna Hytrek both of Longview, Wash., and Clara Henry of McGill, Idaho; three brothers, James Hytrek of Lancaster, Calif., Henry Hytrek of Lusk, and Pete Hytrek of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Hughes on March 21, 2001, and seven siblings.

Serving as pallbearers were Dale Hytrek, Duster Butler, Trice Butler, Earl Nation, John Malcom and Jim Prell.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hytrek, Henry Hytrek, Elmer Johnson, Orman Milliken, Mick Smathers and her many other friends.

Memorials to Alzheimers Association of Wyoming, PO Box 1493, Casper, WY 82602-1493 would be appreciated by the family.

Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of arrangements.
