Wilma Louise Hovis

Wilma Louise Hovis was born in Vernal, Utah on September 28, 1913.

She was the daughter of Flossie Gardiner and Joseph Edwin Rich. Her father died in the flu epidemic in 1918.

Her mother was married to Herman Hoersch in 1920 and they moved the family to Midwest, Wyoming, where Herman was the superintendent of the water works for that area. She attended schools in Midwest.

In February of 1930 she married William F. Hovis.

To this union were born four children, Gloria, William Jr., Michael Gene and Daniel James.

They moved to Lovell in 1935 and were transferred to Lance Creek, Wyoming in 1956, where they lived until Bill retired in 1972. They returned to their home in Lovell.

Wilma was a wonderful cook and an expert seamstress. She always stayed at home and loved her job as wife, mother, and homemaker. There was always a hot, delicious meal on the table and she and the girls always had lovely clothes due to her skill with the needle.

Her home was an expression of her exquisite taste.

Her name was Wilma, but her husband called her Suze and the rest of us called her Ave.

We also lovingly called her Mrs. Gotrocks because she always looked so pretty.

Wilma died at New Horizons Care Center on April 7, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bill; her parents; her brother, Don; and her sister, Josephine.

She is survived by her children, Gloria and Wayne Blackburn of Lovell, Bill and Elaine Hovis of Casper, Michael Gene and Don West of Manville, and Daniel James of Elko, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday, April 10 at Haskell Funeral Home.
