Funeral services for Alva Shirley Horton, 64, of Douglas were held Wednesday at Converse Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Martin Strom of the Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
She died Feb. 4, 2000, at her home in Douglas.
She was born March 26, 1935, in Douglas, the daughter of David Vanco and Georgianna Christina (Hiser) Horton.
She was raised and educated in Douglas and graduated from Douglas High School in 1954.
She worked in beauty salons since fourth grade. At the time of her death, she owned and operated the Kozy Korner Beauty Salon in Douglas.
Her whole life consisted of her work and little children. Although she never married or had children of her own, she was devoted to her nieces and nephews.
She also loved all sports, band performances and plays. She was a member of the Douglas Bearcat Booster Club for many years and was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sisters: Edith Zaichkin of Douglas, Norma Stewart of Lusk, and Lucille Maguire of Douglas; two brothers: Glen Horton of Lansing, N.Y., and Forrest Horton of Casper; her loving nieces and nephews: Georgianna Arqueta and her husband of Independence, Mo., Glenn Maguire of Long Island, N.Y., Christina Maguire of Douglas, Karen Burton of Douglas, Tammie Tjalma and her husband of Douglas, and many others.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1966 and her father in 1975 and two nephews.
Memorials to the Alva S. Horton Memorial Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
