Carrie Hitchcock Funeral Was Being Held Wed.

Funeral service was being held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Peet Chapel for Mrs. Carrie Hitchcock, 89, who died Saturday.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger was conducting the service with Mrs. J. P. Watson as organist. Mark Lohr was singing "In the Garden" and "Just As I Am."

Casket bearers were Rex Groves, Gordon Barnum, Herbert Hanson, Donald Heckert, Robert Holmes, John Lohr. Burial was to be in the Crawford, Neb. cemetery.

Carrie Jeanetta Sides was born June 11, 1885, to Joseph M. and Cordelia Miller Sides, the youngest of a family of 11 children.

She came by train in August 1885 with her mother and family and her mother's brother, Will Miller, to join her father who had taken a homestead near Whitney, Neb. Her mother died in 1890, and her older sister Ida took over the care of the brothers and sisters with the help of her father. Ida was married in 1896.

Carrie attended school in Whitney and Crawford and kept house for her brother Scott until he married.

November 23, 1914, she was married to Harry Scott. They lived at Crawford and then moved to Glenrock to live on a ranch. She sold the ranch in 1953 after Mr. Scott died.

May 8, 1954, she married Ray Hitchcock and they moved to Denver to make their home. He died in 1959, and she stayed in Denver until 1969 when she moved to Lusk to make her home.

Mrs. Hitchcock traveled extensively and had attended several World Fairs. She visited relatives each year and went on trips with nieces and nephews.

While living in Crawford she became a member of the Methodist Church transferring the membership to the Methodist Church in Wheatridge, Colo.

She is survived by a sister-in-law Mrs. June Sides of Scottsdale Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, four sisters and six brothers died previously.

The family has requested memorials be made to the Niobrara Nursing Home.
