Jon F. Surbeck

Jon F. Surbeck, age 65, of Lusk passed away peacefully at his home on the Moriah Ranch east of Lusk on Sunday Aug. 6. At his request, he was buried at a private service on his ranch. A celebration of Jon's life will be held this evening, Wednesday, Aug. 23, starting at 5 p.m. at 3-Sisters in Manville. All are invited to attend.

Jon Frederick Surbeck was born in Illinois on Oct. 25, 1940. He was the youngest son of Myrl and Audrey Surbeck. He married Nancy Castleberry in 1959. Jon served his country in the United States Army from 1961 until 1966 and was stationed in Korea.

He started his lifelong career in utilities with the Illinois Rural Electric Association. Jon and Nancy moved to Fort Collins, Colo., in 1970 where Jon worked for Poudre Valley Rural Electric until his retirement in 2003, at which time they retired to his beloved Moriah
Ranch.

Jon was instrumental in starting the Colorado Lineman's Rodeo. Even when ill health prevented him from attending this event, his heart and prayers were with those who were there. He was active in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 111, the Mesa Hotline School, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Larimer County Mounted Patrol, and the Lusk Senior Pro Rodeo.

Jon's life was dedicated to helping those around him. He was a witness to his Heavenly Father and worked tirelessly for family, friends, and complete strangers. He chose to spend his time on positive things and even in ill health he never gave up and he continued to inspire those around him.

He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy, of Lusk, Wyoming; two sons, Jon McLane Surbeck and Joel Wayne Surbeck and his wife, Shelley; three daughters, Tresa TyAnn Surbeck and her husband Bordon Karney of Hemingford, Nebraska, Twyla Surbeck Barker and her husband Jim Barker of Lusk, and Kally Jo Surbeck of Lusk; one brother, David Surbeck; one sister, Joyce Harris; grandson Boe Surbeck, and many cousins and friends.

A memorial has been established to the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department.
