Isaac D. Hickey, Early Resident of Sioux, Dies
Isaac D. Hickey, 91, a prominent rancher and long-time resident of Sioux County, died January 31 at a Scottsbluff, Neb. nursing home.
He was born March 21, 1881, in Primgar, Iowa, and received his early education there. He came to Nebraska in 1912 and homesteaded in Sioux County. He married Elsie Mae Smith on July 14, 1913 at Armor, S. D., and they lived on the homestead until ill health forced his retirement.
Mr. Hickey was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church of Mitchell. He served as Sioux County commissioner and was active in community affairs.
Among survivors are a son, Dorman M. and a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Mona) Smith, both of Scottsbluff; a brother, Roy, of Chamberlain, S. D., a sister, Mrs. Rowena Bohannon of Rapid City, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services were February 3 at Beecher Hall in Mitchell with Rev. Robert Wiest, officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery. The rosary was recited at the Jones Mortuary Chapel in Mitchell on Friday evening.
