Elsie Mae Hickey Dies on Friday
Elsie Mae Hickey, 85, a long-time resident of Sioux County, died at a Scottsbluff hospital Friday evening.
She was born September 13, 1884, in Sibley, Iowa, and at the age of 8 moved with her parents to Lake Andes, S.D., where she received her education.
She homesteaded in Sioux County in 1910 where she met her husband, Isaac D. Hickey, who had also established a homestead. They were married August 14, 1914, in Armour, S.D., and resided on his homestead in Sioux County until their retirement in 1962.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Dorman M. and a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Mona) Smith, both of Scottsbluff; three brothers, Weston Smith of Seattle, Wash., Ernest Smith, Hillsboro, Ore., and Leslie Smith, Lake Andes, S. D., and three grandchildren.
An infant daughter and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. this Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mitchell with the Rev. Robert Weist officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.
