Maesel Evelyn Hester

Maesel Evelyn Hester, age 84, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming. Maesel was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado, on July 10, 1915, and was the daughter of Harold G. and Lyla (Moser) Watson.

In March of 1925 her family moved to Wheatland. Her parents had the Watson Mortuary, which was later known as the Watson-Dennis Funeral Home and is presently the Platte Funeral Chapel. She graduated from Wheatland High School with the Class of 1933.

On September 1, 1934, she married N. Fulton Hester in Ogallala, Nebraska. They had two children, Irma and Newton. In 1946, after being discharged from the Navy, Fulton moved his family to Glendo and began wheat farming near Keeline. Hester Farms is presently operated by Newton and his son, John.

Maesel was active in PTA when her children were in school, served on the school board in both Glendo and Wheatland and was an avid maker of beautiful ceramic pieces. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Wheatland and of Chapter R, P.E.O.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, John L. Baker of Chugwater and her son and daughter-in-law, Ann of Keeline; by her grandchildren, Deb (Steve) Ross of Greeley, Karen (Bob) Shattuck of Cheyenne, John (Shari) Hester of Keeline, and Wade (Rochelle) Hester of Logan, Utah. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Kevin and Travis Ross of Greeley; Mandie, Devin, and Jessica Shattuck of Cheyenne; Zachary, Joe and Sarah Milke of Greeley; and Hayden and Drew Hester of Keeline.

Maesel was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Kathy Hester Street; her parents; and two sisters, Lorene Grimme and Betty Lou Grant.

A memorial service will be held at Platte Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 19, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Andy Gudahl officiating. A memorial has been established to County Club Living, 52 - 16th Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201, where she had lived since August 1998. Private burial will be at a later date.
