Services for Jake J. Hergert, 82, were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 1996 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle. Memorial gifts to the church would be appreciated.
Jake died at Community Hospital in Torrington on Feb. 14, 1996. He was born Dec. 9, 1913, the son of Jacob H. and Kate (Youst) Hergert on the Hergert homestead north of Torrington. The family moved to a farm south of Lingle in 1919 and then moved to the London Flats area. Jake married Esther Willman April 7, 1935 in Lingle and the couple continued to farm on the London Flats farm where he raised sugar beets, beans, alfalfa, corn and fed steers and sheep. He retired in 1978 and moved to Torrington. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where he held various offices and also helped with the construction of the present church. He was a member of Panhandle Co-op, Goshen County Irrigation District and Farm Bureau. He loved to visit with people and enjoyed being involved with them. He was always there to help friends in need.
He is survived by his wife Esther of Torrington; two sons, Gerald of Pueblo, Colo. and Roger of Colorado Springs, Colo; a daughter, Lynnea Fullmer, of Lusk; two sisters, Martha Wagner of Torrington and Clara Greenwald of Lingle; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by sister Amy and brother Elmer.
