Claud "Heavy" Hudson
Word has been received that Claud "Heavy" Hudson, an early day homesteader in the Lance Creek area, died June 30, 1991, at Riverton Memorial Hospital.
He was best known in Niobrara County in the 1920s and 1930s as a champion boxer. He went on to hold the State Heavy Weight Boxing title in 1934.
He was born June 4, 1903, in Archer, Neb., to Wiley and Ella (Hancock) Hudson. He came to the Lance Creek area in 1922 to homestead. He was employed at the Carbon Black plant for several years. He married Maude May Stewart in Hot Springs, S.D., on March 24, 1934. They moved to Riverton in the late 1930s where he operated a blacksmith shop. A year later they moved to Kinnear, where they lived until the time of his death.
Services were held Wednesday, July 3, in Riverton. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
