Funeral services for Delbert Leroy Haynes, 68, of Guernsey, who died Aug. 19, 1989, in the Wheatland hospital, were held recently in the United Presbyterian Church in Guernsey with Pastor John Hall officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Rest Cemetery at Guernsey.
He was born July 3, 1921, at Fort Laramie to Bert and Sarah (Blair) Haynes. He was educated in Fort Laramie and graduated from high school in 1939. He married Josephine Brown Sept. 2, 1939. He went to work in the Sunrise mines in 1984.
In 1951 he went to work for the gas company where he worked for 17 years. He then returned to the Sunrise mines, where he remained until they closed. He then worked for two years for the Belle Fourche Pipeline and retired in 1984.
He was a volunteer fireman.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, LaQuetta Oliver of Guernsey, and Janeen Oliver of Douglas; son, O'Dell Haynes of Lusk; sisters, Lodisa Morris of Wheatland and Lorraine Wilson of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; half sisters, Bertha Pahceco, of Wheatland, Dorothy Ralls of Arizona and Charlotte Weateread of Dallas, Tex.; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Memorials have been established to the Guernsey rescue unit and the Guernsey Senior Citizens Center.
Platte Funeral Chapel at Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
