Annabelle Lore Hoblit

Annabelle Lore Hoblit was born Dec. 3, 1910, to Arthur L. and Bertha Ross, in Alliance, Box Butte County, Neb. She passed away Jan. 9, 1996. She spent her childhood years in and around Hemingford and Alliance, Neb. After training as a beautician she moved to Lusk to work in several beauty shops and later owned her own business.

On Jan. 15, 1942, she married James Hoblit of Kimball, Neb. They resided on their ranch one mile south of Lusk until his passing in 1959. She later married Gordon "Bill" Hoblit on Sept. 4, 1962, in Alliance Neb. They continued in the ranching business until his death in 1983. She continued the ranching business until her death on Jan. 9, 1996.

Annabel had many interests during her lifetime. She loved to draw and paint when she was first married, and she loved genealogy and compiled many books of family interest. She founded the Niobrara Historical Society. Under her direction the Stagecoach Museum was moved to its present location and began to flourish with the assistance of many dedicated volunteers throughout the years. She also was instrumental in the restoration of the Railroad Redwood Water Tank on Highway 20 heading east. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim and Bill, father, mother, three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived and will be missed by many nieces and nephews including the Walkers from Neb., Whiteakers from Wheatland, Dunlaps and Hoblits from Lusk. In addition, she is survived and will be missed by in law, Mrs. Floyd Engebretson, Glen Walker, Mrs. Morton "Bob" Hoblit, Mrs. Graydon "Bud" Hoblit, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Smith, and a step daughter, Donabelle Hollon, her husband and their children and grandchildren.

Her many friends, neighbors, and associates of the museum and Niobrara Historical Society were the center of her life.

Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service was held at the Bader Funeral Home in Lusk at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996.

The family would appreciate memorials to the Stagecoach Museum or Niobrara/Lusk Ambulance Service.
