Doreen Larson, 75 of Platte, S.D., formerly of Lake Andes, S.D., passed on Sunday, June 11, 2006 at the Platte Health Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 15, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte, with burial to follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 14, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. at the Platte Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Platte Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Doreen Olson was born on October 17, 1930, on a farm near Gayville, S.D. to John and Martha (Larson) Olson. She graduated from Gayville High School in 1948. She then took a position with the Yankton Press and Dakotan until she married Arnold Larson. They were married on April 6, 1952 in Gayville, S.D. After Army service the couple farmed near Hartington, Neb. for 3 years before moving to Sidney, Nebr. where Arnie worked at the Sioux Army Depot. In 1965 they moved to Pickstown where Arnie worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, and Doreen managed the Ft. Randall Federal Credit Union from 1975 to 1986, in 1977 they moved to Lake Andes. Arnie retired in 1987 and they moved to Platte in 2006.
Doreen was a member of the Lutheran Church in Lake Andes until moving to Platte in 2006 and then became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. She was also a member of the Women of the ELCA, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, NARFE Harmony Homelife Club, and President of the Charles Mix County Homelife Clubs.
Doreen is survived by her husband Arnold of Platte, S.D., two daughters Becki Peterson and her husband Jim of Lusk, and Deb VanderWerff and her husband Jay of Platte, S.D., her mother Martha Olson of Gayville, S.D., one sister Aldine and her husband Warren Mayer of Gayville, S.D., grandchildren Andrea Kim and her husband Ben, Adam Honomichl, Kristi Muckey and her husband Joel, and their children Kennedy, Sidney, Mackenzie, and Allison, Jared VanDerVerff and his wife Heather and their children Kalby, and Karly, Kerri Zomer and her husband Matt, and their children Skylar and Carson, and two sister-in-laws.
Doreen was preceded in death by her father John, and two brothers.
