Memorial services for Katherine Elizabeth Herder, age 88, will be held at 1 p.m. on May 12 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. LeRoy Herder officiating. She died at the Goshen Care Center on May 7 and cremation has taken place.
Katherine was born Aug. 13, 1916 in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of George and Katherine (Keller) Schliening. She grew up and received her education there. She married Alex Sander Herder on Sept. 3, 1933 in Scottsbluff. They farmed in various places in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. After retirement they spent their golden years in Manville with family and friends. They moved to Torrington in 2001. She loved creating ceramics, gardening, crocheting, and working at the Care Center in Lusk.
She is survived by her husband Alex of Torrington; one son, LeRoy Herder of Colby, Kan.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Alex, and David; one sister, Molly Hacker; and one son Harvey Gene Herder.
A memorial has been established to the Goshen Care Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.
