Funeral services for lifetime Weston County resident, Zelpha Hansen, age 64, were Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Newcastle First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Firebaugh officiating. Interment followed at the Newcastle Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hansen died unexpectedly of natural causes at Weston County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 16.
Zelpha was born on March 2, 1929 on the family ranch in northern Weston County, the daughter of Daniel T. and Dorothy (Livingston) Davis. On Sept. 23, 1948 she married Jimmy S. Hansen at the family ranch. The couple recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. A devoted ranch wife, Zelpha loved vegetable and flower gardening, her horses, and the chickens. Her love for children showed her to be tireless as a 4-H leader, Weston County Fair superintendent, and chaperone for 4-H camps. She was also a 45 year member of the Skull Creek Women's Club, a 50 year member of the Newcastle First United Methodist Church, and with the Methodist Women's activities. Zelpha also served on the election board for many years. An excellent seamstress, Zelpha sewed wedding dresses, suits, and everything in between. She also loved to write poetry. As her sons and daughters married, their spouses were adopted as her own children.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy of Newcastle, Wyo.; three sons, Bruce and wife Kim of Newcastle, Paul and wife Lori of Cody, Wyo., and Dale and wife Carmel of Lance Creek, Wyo.; one daughter Gwenda and husband Tom Freed of Lander, Wyo.; one brother, Russell Davis of Newcastle; one sister, Estela Boulden of Casper, Wyo.; and nine grandchildren, Matthew, Kristie, Heather, Carla, Crystal, Amy and Joel Hansen, and Neva and Lyle Freed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
