Maxine Payne Harding
Maxine Payne Harding, age 90 of Boulder, Colo., died Nov. 10, at her home.
She was born August 3, 1913 in Kinmundy, Ill., the daughter of Jesse Americus Payne and Rebecca Mae Combs. She married Wesley Benjamin Harding on Feb. 28, 1947 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death May 15, 1993.
Maxine grew up in Riverton, Wyo. and Lusk, Wyo., and graduated from Lusk High School in 1931.
She graduated from the Colorado Women's College in 1935 where she was awarded the E. V. Dunklee Citizenship Award. She was the recipient of the annual Alumni Citation in 1958 and was honored as a distinguished Alumna in Colorado Women's College in 1963.
She worked for the Farmers Home Administration from 1934 to 1949 at which time she retired to become a homemaker.
She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Douglas, Wyo., Woodbine Chapter #18.
She moved to Boulder, Colo. in 1955 from Kensington, Maryland.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Boulder and a community volunteer since 1955.
Survivors include her son, Benjamin Lee Harding, daughter, Rebecca Mae Harding Nikkel, two brothers, Robert S. Payne and William J. Payne and one sister, Shirley Payne Harding, all of Bellingham, Wa.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Floyd Payne and one sister, Mildred Hensley.
