Lorenz Heller Funeral Here On Tuesday

Funeral service for Lorenz A. Heller, 79, of Torrington was held at the Peet Chapel Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Heller died August 4 at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger, pastor of the Baptist Church, conducted the service. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, organist, accompanied Tim Johnson and Susan Baribeau as they sang "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". The members of the Van Tassell Legion conducted military graveside services.

Casket bearers were Walt Schnorenberg and Richard Schnorenberg, of Lusk and Kelvin Beers, Gale Beers, Mr. Anderson and Tom Lewis of Torrington.

Lorenz Andrew Heller was born Feb. 8, 1893, at Dennison, Iowa, to Lorenz A. and Dorthea E. Heller, one of eight children. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Early in life he homesteaded in western Nebraska south of Harrison. Then served in World War I in the cavalry, breaking stock for the Remount.

After the war he returned to the sandhills area and in 1920 married Mrs. Amy Mark, a widow who had three sons, George E., Ralph F. and Peter O. of whom only Ralph of Torrington is still living.

In early married life he and his wife moved to the Van Tassell community and farmed and raised stock. He was a charter member of Fred Branstetter Post #1 of the American Legion.

In 1945 the family moved to Torrington where he was employed as a meat cutter. He cared for his wife who died in 1958 after a long illness. Since his retirement he has also lived in Torrington.

Of the Heller family three sisters survive him Mrs. Blondena Haverstrah, Grand Island, Neb., Mrs. Frieda Stone, Plainview Neb. and Mrs. Arnietta Petersen of Lusk. He is also survived by his son Ralph, nine step-children and many nieces and nephews.
