Wayne Edward Heckert

Wayne Edward Heckert of Douglas died Sunday, Jan 26, 1986 at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was 83.

Mr. Heckert was born Dec. 14, 1902, the son of William and Eva Stone Heckert at Streater, Ill. As a young boy, he moved to Minnesota with his family. They then came to Wyoming by train, settling in Sunny Side, northwest of Van Tassell. He worked on ranches and carried mail in Nebraska for a short time.

He married Florence Hanson Dec. 23, 1932, in Hot Springs, S.D. He worked construction in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana, and went to Douglas in 1940. He was associated with the Wyoming Highway Department for 32 years, retiring in 1967. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Casper and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

He is survived by two sons, Donald of Van Tassell and Charles of Douglas; a daughter, Alice Gorsuch of Douglas; a brother, Ray Heckert of Arizona; a sister, Gladys Michael of Beaverton, Ore., 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and infant son, an infant daughter, seven brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held Jan. 29 at the Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas with the Rev. Harry B. Randall III officiating. Burial was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.

A memorial to the Niobrara County Ambulance or to the choice of the donor would be appreciated equally by the family. The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas handled arrangements.
