Norman Dennis "Hook" Hauge

Funeral services for Norman Dennis "Hook" Hauge, 85, were held Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, with ministers Andy Gudahl and John Johnson officiating. Interment with military graveside rites by the Wyoming Air National Guard Flag Heritage Team of Cheyenne were held in the Iowa Flats Cemetery near Chugwater. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Fireside of the First Christian Church.

Mr. Hauge died April 13, in the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Norman Dennis Hauge, the son of Andrew M. and Breta Andrea (Elevback) Hauge, was born August 18, 1916, on a farm in Eden Township in Winnebago County, Iowa. He attended country school until the age of 9. He completed the remainder of his grade school and high school education in Forest City, Iowa.

Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hook joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Colorado in World War II. On Sept. 29, 1946, Hook married Doreen Faye Thompson in Forest City. Their first daughter, Jeanne, was born there in 1947. Their second daughter, Debra, was born in Valentine, Neb., in 1952. Hook was employed by LaCreek Electric for 20 years in Martin, S. D. He then began his own electrical contracting business and purchased a motel/apartment complex. He was a member of the American Legion Post, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a former city council member, Commercial Club, American Lutheran Church, and attended First Christian Church in Wheatland for the past 10 years.

Sports were his life long passion, both as a participant and spectator. He played baseball, basketball, golf, pool, and bowling. In 1982, he played in the World Series of Tavern Pool in Las Vegas, Nevada at Caesar's Palace. His enthusiastic support was so appreciated that young people in two communities honored him for his faithful encouragement.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen of Wheatland; two daughters, Jeanne Kay and husband Steve Peterson of Lance Creek, and Debra Sue and Kevin Tschosik of Bismarck, N.D.; three granddaughters, Rosemary Peterson of Lusk, Becky and husband Tracy Vaughn of Wheatland, and Katie and Dennis Richards of Torrington; one grandson, Mick Cockran and wife Lisa of Wheatland; six great grandchildren, Brett, Blake, Kelsey and Trevor Vaughn, Chase Cochran, and Dmitri Richards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and three sisters. Serving as pallbearers will be B.J. Axford, Micheal Cochran, Bob Shoemaker, Arland Childres, Rusty Reynolds, and John Benton. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his relatives and friends.
