Death Claims Dave Ray Harris On Saturday, November 26th; Rites Are Held Tuesday; Burial Lusk Cemetery

Death came quietly to Dave Ray Harris, resident of Niobrara County for the past 32 years, at six o'clock Saturday morning, November 26th, at the Spencer hospital, where he had been hospitalized for treatment of a heart ailment. He had been in poor health for the past year. Mr. Harris had made his home with his only sister, Mrs. Ruth Walker of this city, since retiring from active operation of his ranch in the Bright community.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, November 29th from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth H. Rice, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Newcastle, Wyo., officiating.

"Going Down the Valley" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by a male quartet composed of Don Unruh, Dr. Richard Collins, Harry Lyons and Al Davenport, with Mrs. J. P. Watson presiding at the organ.

Burial was made in the Lusk cemetery with Albert Glasby, Hans Meng, Allen Coats, Robert B. Taylor, Roy Maguire and Chris Christensen serving as casketbearers.

Dave Ray Harris was born in Gentry County, Missouri, July 9th 1855 and passed away on Saturday, November 26th, 1955 at the age of 70 years, four months and 16 days. He had been in poor health for the past year.

His early years were spent near McFail, Missouri except for the years he spent in school in Cameron, Missouri, where he lived with an aunt and uncle and assisted with the janitor work at the school.

In early manhood, he moved with the family to a farm near Bethany, Missouri. Some years later the family moved to a farm near Bethany, Mo. Some years later they again moved to Akron, Colorado where they lived until moving in 1920 to the ranch in Niobrara County, which has been his home since that time.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ruth Walker of Lusk, a nephew, Loren Walker and a great nephew, Dale Walker of Harrison, Nebr., a nephew Ray Neff of St. Joseph, Missouri, a number of cousins and other relatives.

Dave Harris Dies in Lusk Saturday

Dave Ray Harris, 70, a retired rancher of Niobrara County, died in the Spencer Hospital Saturday of apoplexy.

Funeral services were held in the Peet Chapel Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Rice of Newcastle officiating. A male quartet composed of Donley Unruh, Harry Lyon, Dr. R. W. Collins and Al Davenport sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "We Are Going Down the Valley", accompanied by Mrs. J.P. Watson, organist.

Casket-bearers were: Albert Glasby, Hans Meng, Allen Coates, Robert Taylor, Chris Christensen and Roy Maguire. Interment was in the Lusk cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

Dave Ray Harris was born in Gentry County, Mo. July 9, 1885, the son of Dave G. and Ella Rhay Harris. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Ruth Walker of Lusk; two nephews: Loren Walker of Harrison and Ray Neff of St. Joseph, Mo.; a grand-nephew, Dale Walker of Harrison.
