John Sturman

The funeral for Casper resident John Sturman, 67, was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday Feb. 10, at Highland Park Community Church by Pastor Steve Chaderdon.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bustard's Funeral Home and Crematory.

He died Feb. 5, 2006 at the Central Wyoming Hospice Home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 12, 1938, at his parents' home in Lusk. He was the son of Margaret (DeGroot) and Benjamin Sturman; and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1956.

He then joined the U.S. military and was honorably discharged in 1961. In 1964, he married Connie L. Stubson.

For several years, he worked in the oil fields for Pacific Power and Light Co. He was an oil and gas inspector for the Bureau of Land Management and retired in 2002.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 42 years; daughter, Deena Rae, and her fiancé; two sons, John K. Sturman Jr. and Jeffrey Scott "Jeff" Sturman and his wife; three grandchildren; three brothers, James, Walter and his wife and Harold and his wife; sister, Marjorie Grisham, and her husband; a brother-in-law and his wife; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, George, Gerald and Donald.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central Wyoming Hospice Program, 319 S. Wilson St., Casper, WY 82601; or left at Bustard's.
