Dwanne Allen Grote
Dwanne Allen Grote
Memorial services for Dwanne Allen Grote, 48, were held May 8 at the United Methodist Church in Torrington with the Reverends John and Deb Olenyik officiating. Cremation has already taken place and private family burial will take place at a later date.
He died May 4, 1999, in the Special Touch Room at the Torrington Community Hospital from complications related to a brain tumor.
He was born July 26, 1950, in Lusk, the son of Earl and Ola Mae (Dykes) Grote. At the age of 14, after the death of his father in 1965, Dwanne became a father figure to his younger brothers and sisters. He juggled school and work on the family ranch north of Harrison, Neb., until his graduation from Sioux County High School in 1968.
On September 11, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Julie Mann, in Harrison, Neb. The couple were married for 29 years and had three daughters who will proudly carry on his joyful love of life.
Born a cowboy, Dwanne's work ethics and multiple abilities provided him with jobs on the Tom Nerud Ranch near Bayard, Neb., and the Audra Gibbs Ranch north of Henry, Neb. He had been employed with Madden Brothers' Frontier Feeders as Feedlot manager since the fall of 1984.
Dwanne belonged to various roping clubs and organizations over the years and was a mentor and friend to fellow ropers and employees.
He was an eternal optimist with a huge respect for, and a spiritual understanding of life. His family and friends will remember him by simple things he enjoyed: roping and golfing with his roping buddies; playing cards around a kitchen table; sky blue and pink sunsets; and the smell of rain.
He is survived by his wife Julie; three daughters, Kerri Grote of Milwaukee, Wis.; Anissa and husband Shaun Hatcher of Clifton, Colo.; and Daphne and husband Frank Walters of Las Vegas, Nev.; mother Ola Mae of Harrison, Neb.; two brothers, Rodney Grote and Joe and his wife Connie Grote of Lewellen, Neb.; four sisters, Debbie and husband Glen Petersen of Harrison, Neb.; Kay and husband Lloyd Sharp of Pueblo, Colo.; Susan Grote Pullen of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Karen and husband Dennis Feeken of Cambridge, Neb., numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl Grote and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorials directed to the family would be appreciated.
Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
