Peg Coffee Hanson dies August 4 at Chadron

Funeral service was held August 6, for Hazel (Peg) Coffee Hanson who died August 4, at the Chadron Community Hospital. She had been hospitalized for the past several weeks.

Hazel, daughter of Delbert and Cora (Quick) Berry was born on May 12, 1892, at Benent, Ill., and spent her youth in that area. As an adult, she came to Harrison to visit her friends Dr. and Mrs. Wendell Priest. Here she became acquainted with John T. Coffee, a widower, to whom she was later married on Feb. 25, 1921, at St. Charles, Mo. They made their home at the Hat Creek ranch until 1925 when they moved to Harrison and Mr. Coffee assumed management of the Sioux National Bank.

The two children born to them and surviving are Bill B. Coffee of Harrison and Jane Mardell Sumpter of Phoenix, Ariz. Grandchildren surviving are Claire Brown, Sara Radil, Ann and Sue Coffee, Mardell Olson and Nancy and Buff Sumpter. A stepson John T. Coffee, Jr., of Phoenix, who was a youth at the time of their marriage also survives, as well as his children, Toney and Robin Coffee. John T. Coffee, Sr., died in September, 1959.

On September 28, 1962, Hazel was married to Guy W. Hanson at Casper, Wyo. They made their home in Harrison; however they traveled extensively until Mr. Hanson's death on Feb. 3, 1968. Mrs. Hanson continued her residence in Harrison. Her stepchildren from this marriage are Caroline Pyle, Wilma Geiser, Herb, Bob and Ralph Hanson. Also surviving are her sister, Marvel Wagy of Casselberry, Fla., a half sister, Marjorie Cooper of Houston, Tex..; 13 step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hanson was a member of the Methodist Church of Eastern Star Chapter 198 of Crawford, and a life member of the Sioux County Historical Society. During her active years she was a member of the Nebraska Cow Belles and of the WSCS.

The service was held at Memorial Methodist Church in Harrison with the Rev. Robert Todd officiating. Music was provided by Dorothy Todd at the organ and Ann Coffee, granddaughter of Mrs. Hanson, as soloist. Burial was in the Harrison cemetery. Pallbearers were Herb Hanson, John Bixler, Rex Coffee, Jr., Joe La May, Frank Cherry and Emery Zimmerman. Refreshments were served at the V.F.W. Hall by the Methodist Ladies and Eastern Star immediately following the service.

Memorials may be sent to the Sioux County Ambulance Fund or to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital. Contribution to either memorial fund may be left at the Sioux National Bank for forwarding at a later date.
