Mark Hammond Dies from Burn Complications
Funeral service for Mark Hammond, 20, was held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Robert Boutwell conducting the service.
Tim Johnson, soloist, sang "Turn, Turn, Turn" and "The Lord's Prayer accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Bardo at the organ.
Casket bearers were Gene Perry, Brad Culver, Brad Wasson, Doug Williams, Alan Strodtman and Dean Harris. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mark died Saturday from complications from burns he received in a fire May 10 at the Southside Truck Stop where he was employed. He was taken to Colorado General Hospital in Denver following the accident and has been hospitalized there since.
Mark Alexander Hammond was born March 21, 1953, at Riceville, Iowa, the son of Marian M. (Nolda) and William Hammond. The family moved to Sidney, Neb., and later to Lusk where Mark attended school, graduating from Niobrara County High School in 1971. He was a member of the Congregational Church.
Mark is survived by his parents; one brother, Mike; two sisters, Karla of the U. S. Navy and Kristine; and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Nolda of Alma, Iowa.
