Ira J. Hammer, 85 Dies on August 8
Ira J. Hammer, 85, of Silverthorne, Colo., father of Malcolm Hammer of Lusk, died August 8 at the family home. Funeral services were held from the Schraders Chapel in Cheyenne August 12. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Ivan Halley, Ivan Bushirk, Homer Trimble, Lloyd Spaulding, Buck Haggerty and Clayton Harvey, all of Glendo, Wyo.
He was born May 22, 1884 at Bramhall Territory of South Dakota. This town no longer exists, but at this time his mother was postmistress of this town and his father was railway clerk between Pierre and Huron, S. Dak.
When he was three years old his family moved to Minnesota where he grew to manhood and received his education. He graduated from the Ag School at Winona, Minn.
In 1907 he homesteaded at Hillsdale Laramie County, Wyoming. He moved to Platte County, Wyoming in 1931 where he and his wife operated a general store and post office at Cassa for several years. Later he moved to Silverthorne where his wife is employed as a school teacher at the Summit County Schools.
Survivors include his widow, Mary L. of the family home; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Pierce of Denver; three sons, Malcolm of Lusk; Marvin of Van Nuys, Calif.; George of Bogota Columbia, South America; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
