Margaret Haas Last Rites Held
Margaret Haas, 89, early homesteader north of Montrose, died at The Care Home in Hemingford on July 10. Funeral services were held last Wednesday morning at the Catholic Church in Harrison with Father Claude officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers were six nephews: Charles and Matt Haas, Charles, George and Leonard Schaefer all of Harrison; and Bernard Culek of Kimball, Nebr.
Mrs. Haas was born December 22, 1876, in Luxembourg, the youngest daughter of Peter and Margaret Haas. She came to the United States and to Nebraska with her family in 1887. The mother died soon after the family reached Nebraska.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Catherine Schaefer of Harrison. Her parents and five brothers died previously.
Mrs. Haas made her home in Hot Springs, S. Dak., for many years before coming to Harrison in 1948.
Here for the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schaefer and son of Pioneer, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Culek and sons of Kimball, Mrs. Frances Pfister, Paul Pfister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pfister and sons of Node, and Mrs. Goldie Vaughn of Hemingford.
