Funeral Service for Leonard Gilbert, 77, Held in Douglas
Leonard Haver Gilbert, 77, died November 25 at the Douglas hospital. Funeral services were held from the Stark's Funeral Home in Douglas November 28, with burial in the Douglas Park Cemetery. The Rev. Delbert Dick of Wheatland officiated.
Casket bearers were Kenneth Wright, Larry Eddy, Charles Reese, Fay Edison, Leonard Chamberlain and Leon Chamberlain.
Honorary bearers were Clarence Mason, Charley Reese, Wilmer Baar, Tom Bowers, Bill Nuttall and Charley Freeman.
He was born November 24, 1893, to Americus and Minerva Osborn Gilbert near Cozad, Neb. When a few weeks old his parents moved to a homestead southwest of Callaway, Neb., where he lived until he was 32 years old, with exception of one year he spent in the U. S. Navy during World War I.
He married Christine Baker March 25, 1922, at Broken Bow, Neb. They made their home for the first few years on a farm south of Callaway before coming to the Lost Springs area in the spring of 1926, where they resided until November of 1969 when they moved to Douglas.
One son Myron died previously.
Survivors include his widow Christine of the family home, a son Marvin of Casper; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Orr of Paxton, Neb.; a brother, Clyde of Nyssa, Orr., and several nieces and nephews.
