Funeral Service For John Gibbs In Newcastle
Funeral services for John A. Gibbs, 69, who died at Weston County (Newcastle) Memorial Hospital, August 2, was held in the chapel of the McColley Funeral Home, Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. E. Hoff, of the First Christian Church, and Bryan Clark officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Newcastle, with Odd Fellow graveside rites.
Mr. Gibbs was born April 18, 1902, at Hay Springs, Neb., to Alfred J. and Katie W. Gibbs. He married Gladys Anne Mather, April 10, 1923, in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. They ran a Country store for ten years on Beaver Creek south of Newcastle and Cheyenne River for six years. In 1956 they moved to Guernsey and Wheatland, where they made their home until they moved back to Newcastle, in November, 1970. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, Paradise Lodge No. 29, Wheatland.
He is survived by his wife Gladys; daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Jean) Shuck, Newcastle, and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Updike, of Moorcroft; three brothers, Lawrence of Wheatland, Joe of Newcastle, and Irwin of Clayton, Washington; a sister, Katherine Fatheringham, Evanston, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
His parents, an infant son, two brothers, a sister and grandson, died previously.
