Mass celebrated for Irene Gerl
Funeral mass for Mrs. Irene Gerl, 77, of Billings, Mont., was celebrated on Monday, May 7, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Shoshoni. The Rev. Tiber Furak of Riverton was the celebrant, and burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery in Shoshoni.
Mrs. Gerl was born Febr. 23, 1902, at Hawarden, Iowa. She was reared in Nebraska and came to Wyoming in 1918. On May 1920, she married Joseph Gerl at Cheyenne.
Gerl was employed as a telegrapher by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for many years, and was twice assigned to duty at the depot in Lusk, the last time during World War II.
While living in Lusk, Mrs. Gerl was employed as a beauty operator.
After leaving Lusk, the Gerls resided in Billings before moving to Shoshoni. After her husband's death in 1966, Mrs. Gerl moved back to Billings and has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Joe (Lorraine) Divver since that time.
Mrs. Gerl and Mrs. Divver were on a business trip to Portland, Ore, when she became ill and was hospitalized there until her death.
She is survived by her daughter; two sisters, Mrs. Ione Williams of Modesto, Calif. and Mrs. Norm Fredricking of Plattsmouth, Nebr.; one brother, Lee McGowan of Kearney, Nebr.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
