Emery C. Gaukel
Rosary services for Emery C. Gaukel, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 1991, in the Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 1991, at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Shea officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.
Gaukel died Monday, June 3, 1991, at the Niobrara County Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 4, 1905, in Burwell, Neb., the son of Charles M. and Anna A. Deafenbaugh Gaukel. The family moved by covered wagon to Wyoming when he was nine years old. His father homesteaded in the Jireh community. He attended school at Jireh and was the oldest of 10 children.
Gaukel worked on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and the Carbon Block Plant at Lance Creek for several years before ranching.
He married Fannie Lincoln on Oct. 15, 1930, at Douglas, Wyo. Five children blessed this union. They lived and farmed in the Jireh-Keeline area until he retired in 1978.
He was a member of the Catholic Church. He served on the Jireh School Board and the Keeline election board. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and gardening.
He entered the Niobrara County Nursing Home in January 1984, where he resided until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Allen Gaukel, a sister Dorothy Hipsley, an infant brother and three grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Fannie of Lusk; five children, Phyllis and her husband Warren Freeman of Douglas, Kenneth and his wife Karen Gaukel of Keeline, Aileen and her husband Lloyd Baker of Yorba Linda, Calif., Daniel and his wife Cheryl Gaukel of Keeline and Joanne Frye of Casper; four sisters, Marie Sperry of Twin Falls, Idaho, Ruby Simon of Torrington, Margie Patten of Bayfield, Colo., and Anna Nelson of Torrington; two brothers, Clarence Gaukel of Lakewood, Colo., and Charles Gaukel of Casper; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Freeman, Robert Freeman, Kevin Gaukel, Kurt Gaukel, Mark Baker, Patrick Gaukel, Andrew Gaukel, Dean Gaukel, Bret Frye, Brian Frye and Brandon Frye.
Memorials to the Niobrara County Nursing Home will be appreciated by the family.
